WXXI Taping

Tonight I went to a very musical and fun taping at WXXI Rochester of the Mikaela Davis Band, a trio of very talented young musicians headed by Mikaela Davis (pictured above).  She is a gifted harpist/singer who writes very ethereal, unique songs.  Wonderful!  It will be broadcast early next year in the On Stage program on WXXI Rochester.

Abilene Nightclub

Went to my favorite nightclub in Rochester Friday -- they always have great bands, and friendly folks there.

Saving Money in The Big Apple

When you visit New York City, one can run through lots of cash very fast. I just visited the City for the weekend and found some good tips to save.

o Take the airporter bus from the airport to mid-town instead of a taxi. One good one is the New York Airport Service bus, it's a $15 ride instead of the huge taxi bill.  Their phone is (212) 532-4900 for more information, or visit nyairportservice.com.

o Get a Metro Card with unlimited trips.  You can get one for a week for $29.00, and it works on the subway and bus.

o Eat at those great gourmet delis and salad bars they have all over.  One terrific one is at 41st and Lexington Avenue, the Everyday Gourmet Deli.

o Get a discount theatre ticket by going early to the theatre district the day of when you want to go to see a show and pick up a cheaper, last minute seat.  Visit tdf.org for more information.

o Stay with a friend or family member instead of a hotel, or search out a good hotel deal online.  Hotels are sky high in the City, but deals can be found if you look.

o Try not to spend too much shopping.  Not easy, I know!

o Walk and get some exercise instead of using cabs, the exercise and fresh air will do you good.

Bible

If you ever wanted to read the Bible through but can't seem to find the time, I recently heard about a website that will email you a selection from the Bible each day so you can easily read it through. What a wonderful way to start your day!  It's bibleinayear.org and it's a free service.  You can select from different translations, etc. too.

Turtle Hill Last Day

Today sadly was the last day of the wonderful Turtle Hill Folk Festival, here are some shots of the multi-talented musicians on stage. Thanks to everyone -- musicians, staff, volunteers, and audience, for making this a most enjoyable weekend.  The festival is put on every year by the folks at Golden Link Folk Singing Society, a great group in the Rochester, NY area.  Their website is goldenlink.org.
